Assam: 125 Eminent Personalities Felicitated in Jorhat

JORHAT, April 25: One hundred twenty five leading luminaries of Jorhat were felicitated in the concluding ceremony of the 125 years celebration of Jorhat Theatre, a renowned sociocultural organisation, on Sunday.

In the function presided over by Yogananda Bora, president of the 125 years celebration committee, the eminent personalities were felicitated in a Shilpi Pranaam programme in which their feet were washed as per Assamese culture, and they were presented with a gamosa, citation and memento each.

A book titled Biswa Natyar Prexapotot Jorhat Theatre was released on the occasion.

Jorhat MLA Hitendra Nath Goswami also graced the occasion and inaugurated the open session earlier.

Goswami, in his address, spoke about the glorious journey of the 125 year old cultural organisation and its contribution towards enriching the cultural sector of the state.

Assuring all possible aid from his side, Goswami urged the Jorhat Theatre to take up the initiative of staging a drama every month.

Coinciding with the concluding ceremony, a five day Naat Samaroh from April 20 to 24 was held under which five dramas were staged in the auditorium in the evening by different theatre groups including one by the Jorhat Theatre.

On the first day (April 20) a cultural procession was taken out by the Jorhat Theatre across the town.
