Assam: AASU sweeps major positions in GU PGSU elections, ABVP wins 1

Guwahati, Sept 29: There was a resounding celebration as the results for the GU PGSU elections were announced today, with AASU winning a total of eight out of 14 PGSU positions including the post of president. AASU candidate Jintu Das secured maximum votes and thus emerged as the next president.

In recent developments, student bodies involved in the contest, including the National Students’ Association of India (NSUI), Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), and Asom Chatra Parishad (ACP) filled the remaining positions. Both ACP and NSUI managed to secure two positions, while ABVP won one.

According to information received, ACP candidate Arif Hussain Mir acquired the vice president position, while NSUI candidate Himanjit Deka won the general secretary position. Conversely, ABVP candidate Niharika Devi won the assistant general secretary position. ACP’s Suraj Phukan won the Boys Common Room Secretary post, while AASU’s Winnie Deka won the Girls Common Room Secretary post.

Simultaneously, NSUI’s Rishab Narzary won the Sports Secretary post with AASU candidates Himakshi Rabha and Pallab Pratim Hazarika winning Major Games and Minor Games positions, respectively. Furthermore, Barsha Borgohain, an AASU candidate, won the Debate and Symposium Secretary post, while Lakhyajit Saikia from the same organisation won the Cultural Secretary post.

In addition, AASU’s Debangana Chakraborty and Nabakanta Baruah won Social Service and Literature Secretary posts, respectively, as NSUI’s Rishab Jyoti Kathar won the Music Secretary post.
