IMPHAL, JULY 21: In a major breakthrough in the war against Manipur insurgency, security personnel arrested a self-styled Sergeant Major of the outlawed militant group People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) on Saturday, July 19. The arrest was made in Imphal East district.
The arrested man has been found to be 38-year-old Konjengbam Tomba Singh, alias Laingam. A Kontha Ahallup Makha Leikai resident, Singh is a Myanmar-trained rebel who had returned to Manipur after receiving basic military training at a PREPAK camp in Tanal, Myanmar.
Officials disclosed that Singh was actively engaged in underground operations even after returning. He was an active recruiter for the proscribed group and played a critical role in recruiting at least one fresh cadre into PREPAK in October 2024. His activities indicated a consistent attempt to bolster the group’s network and activate its movement.
Singh was arrested at his home after a targeted raid by security forces on the basis of specific intelligence inputs. He is now in custody, and additional investigations are being carried out to track his network of contacts and to disrupt any wider insurgent operations coordinated by the group.
