HOWRAGHAT, May 6: Police have to intervene after a clash broke out among BJP workers here on Friday morning.
As per eyewitness reports, there was a protest demonstration by BJP workers owing allegiance to the BJP higher-ups who are in power in Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) demanding a road at Rongkut Block.
The ruling party workers protesting against its own elected leader, the local Member of Autonomous Council (MAC) and also executive member of KAAC, Khansing Rongpi with placards and festoons in hand shouted slogans of “Khansing Rongpi Go Back” and “Khansing Rongpi Murdabat”.
Soon, a mob of more than 30 people led by alleged Rongpi lackeys, Jisu Kemprai and Nanda Chauhan arrived on the scene. The mob started an argument with the protesters and soon pushes and shoves ensued which soon gave way to fisticuffs. During the bare-knuckled fight, several have their noses broken and teeth fell out.
The police got wind of the fracas and arrived on the scene to take control of the situation. Although, no case has been registered while several BJP workers were picked up for interrogation but were soon released.
