Assam CEO submits assembly poll results to Guv

GUWAHATI, May 6: Assam’s Chief Electoral Officer Anurag Goel on Wednesday handed over the assembly poll results to Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya.

A team from the CEO’s office, led by Goel, called on the governor at the Lok Bhawan here and submitted the list of elected legislators.

After submission of the official results, the governor will start the process to form the new government in the northeastern state.

The BJP-led NDA had stormed to power for a third successive term in the state with a two-thirds majority.

“A delegation from the Election Commission, led by state Chief Electoral Officer Shri Anurag Goel ji, formally presented the results of the 2026 Assam Assembly elections at the Lok Bhawan today,” Acharya said in a post on X.

“Heartfelt appreciation to the entire team of Election Commission for conducting the elections for all 126 assembly constituencies in a peaceful, efficient and well-organised manner,” the governor added.

The BJP won 82 seats, while its allies Asom Gana Parishad and Bodoland People’s Front bagged 10 each.

The Congress secured 19 seats and its ally Raijor Dal two. Among other opposition parties, the AIUDF won two constituencies and the Trinamool Congress one.

Elections to the 126-member Assembly were held in a single phase on April 9, and the counting of votes took place on May 4. (PTI)
