SILCHAR, May 30: The Assam government has announced a compensation of Rs 1 lakh each to 1,263 families of Doloo tea estate, a total of Rs 12.63 crore as a goodwill gesture for their cooperation towards setting up of Greenfield airport at the district.
The decision was taken at a state cabinet meeting on Sunday.
The development came from the cabinet to set an example in the smooth land acquisition process.
Silchar MP Rajdeep Roy has praised the Assam cabinet for the financial package.
“Thank Shri Himanta Biswa Sarma ji for the Doloo tea garden decision taken in Assam Cabinet meeting”, he wrote over Twitter.
While sharing his views, Silchar legislator Dipayan Chakraborty termed this initiative as historic and expressed his thankfulness to the Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma for his efforts and pro-active stances towards setting up the airport at Cachar.
He further stated that with the setting up of Greenfield airport at Cachar will usher a new era of development in the valley.
Cachar DC Jalli Keerthi has also expressed gratitude on the development and expressed that the financial assistance will help the tea labourers to invest in their well-being for long term measures.
“Many labourers expressed apprehension that the construction of Greenfield airport will cost them their job. We want to assure them that none of them will be ousted from their work and every such point mentioned in the MoU will be implemented in letter and spirit,” she said.
Jalli added that the goodwill gesture of Rs 1 lakh to each family will aid them to further strengthen the economic capability.
