DIBRUGARH, Jan 30: Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday announced setting up of an eight storey building at Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) by dismantling the old staff quarters.
Talking to reporters here, Sarma said, “Today, the cabinet has decided to build an eight storey building at AMCH by spending Rs 300 crore. The old quarters will be dismantled and a new building will be built to strengthen the infrastructure of AMCH.”
“An amount of Rs 15,200 crore will be spent for the infrastructure development of Dibrugarh. A state of art international convention centre with 1,500 seating capacity will be built in Dibrugarh and another auditorium with seating capacity of around 500 will also be built in Dibrugarh. The Kahanikar stadium seat capacity will be upgraded to 15,000 from existing 5,000 seat capacity,” CM Sarma informed.
He further said, “A state police sport centre will be set up in Dibrugarh police reserve playground. Three new flyovers will come up in Dibrugarh for easy movement of traffic. The flyover will be built at Amolapatty, Mancotta and Lahowal. A new hockey stadium will be set up in Naharkatia which will give more focus to women.”
“A 15 km double lanning road will be constructed from Sasoni to Itakhuli and five bridges will be built in the district. Dibrugarh central jail will be shifted to Tingkhong. The cabinet has also decided to introduce two new courses – Applied Psychology and Geography in Dibrugarh University. For renovation of Kahanikar Mahatma Gandhi Park and Lakshminath Bezbarua park, Rs 10 crore will be allocated,” the chief minister further informed.
Later, CM Sarma inaugurated a foot over bridge (FOB) at Dibrugarh University, Allen Coaching Centre at Phoolbagan and Tai Cultural Centre and Guest House of the Water Resources department in Dibrugarh.
“Glad to dedicate to the public a foot overbridge equipped with lift & escalator near Jyoti Batchora of Dibrugarh University. Built on NH-37, the foot overbridge will provide huge relief to the university students & staff besides general public in crossing the busy road,” chief minister Sarma said in a social media post.
Adding to the list of projects inaugurated, the chief minister in another social media post said, “Launched Bikashit Jivan Parikalpana scheme and a coaching centre set up at Dibrugarh in association with Allen to prepare students for national level medical & engineering exams. I’m sure the centre will greatly benefit aspiring students from Dibrugarh & its surrounding areas.”
