DIBRUGARH, March 21: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday inspected the proposed sites for the upcoming Assam Legislative Assembly complex and MLA hostel at Khanikar in Dibrugarh.
During the inspection, Dibrugarh MLA and state cabinet minister Prasanta Phukan was present alongside Sarma.
“A complex for the Assam Legislative Assembly will be constructed in Dibrugarh, and an MLA hostel will also be built here. The assembly building will have a capacity for 160 MLAs and will be constructed with future requirements in mind. An MLA hostel with a size of 800 to 1,000 square feet per room will also be built at the proposed site, and the tender process will begin in May this year,” Sarma told media persons.
He further mentioned that two assembly sessions will be held in Dibrugarh, and another two will take place in Guwahati, adding, “Additionally, we are planning to build a circuit house near the assembly building, which will have 75 rooms for government officials”.
Besides this, the chief minister also reviewed the progress of the Khanikar stadium and chaired a meeting at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat in the district with officials from the Dibrugarh Municipal Corporation (DMC), the directorate of Town and Country Planning, and other concerned departments regarding artificial flooding in Dibrugarh.
In the meeting, Sarma directed officials to ensure the completion of necessary flood mitigation works within a specified timeline, emphasising accountability and efficiency in execution.
Prasanta Phukan, DMC Mayor Dr Saikat Patra, district commissioner Bikram Kairi, and other senior officials were also present at the meeting.
The government remains committed to implementing long-term solutions to prevent artificial flooding and improve urban infrastructure in Dibrugarh.
