MARGHERITA, March 8: The Jan Ashirwad Yatra, a major pre-election outreach initiative of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), continued to gather momentum across Assam ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections, with large crowds greeting chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma during the seventh day of the campaign on Sunday.
The campaign, which aims to seek public blessings and highlight the government’s development and welfare initiatives, was flagged off by the chief minister on February 28 from the Gupteshwar Temple in Dhekiajuli of Sonitpur district.
On Sunday, the chief minister began the day’s programme in Margherita after arriving by helicopter at the playground of Ledo Bazaar Bengali Higher Secondary School.
He later visited the Ledo Central Namghar to offer prayers and receive blessings from devotees and Vaishnavas.
Thousands of supporters lined both sides of National Highway 315 from Ledo to Margherita, creating a vibrant atmosphere as people welcomed the chief minister with flower showers and cheers.
Addressing supporters, Sarma expressed gratitude for the overwhelming response and highlighted the achievements of the state government while urging voters to support BJP candidates in the upcoming Assembly elections.
The chief minister was accompanied by Dilip Saikia, Cabinet minister Rupesh Gowala, Margherita MLA Bhaskar Sharma, and senior BJP leaders including Sanjay Singh, Kusha Kanta Borah, Pranab Baruah and Pulak Chetia.
The yatra later proceeded through Digboi and concluded at Makum, where interactions with local residents focused on regional issues while seeking public blessings for the party ahead of the elections.
