Assam CM inaugurates Shantiram Lahkar Park, statue

GUWAHATI, Nov 24: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday inaugurated the Shantiram Lahkar Park in Ward No. 4 of Rangia town, honouring the region’s first freedom fighter and one of its earliest modernisers.

During his visit, the chief minister unveiled a life-sized statue of Shantiram Lahkar installed inside the park and released a book dedicated to his legacy.

He also inaugurated a newly built clock tower within the park premises.

Sarma said the memorial serves as a tribute to Lahkar’s contribution to the freedom movement and to Rangia’s development.

He added that the park would inspire future generations to appreciate the sacrifices made by the region’s freedom fighters.
