GUWAHATI, Jan 6: A constable (UB) of Bordoloni outpost under Gogamukh Police Station, Dhemaji, was arrested on Friday by sleuths of the directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Assam, for allegedly demanding and accepting bribe in order to facilitate relief to the complainant’s son-in-law from a criminal case being investigated in Bordoloni outpost.
The constable (UB) Niran Dhar Pawe was arrested while negotiating payment of bribe from the complainant. As per the FIR, the constable had demanded Rs 10,000 as bribe from the complainant.
Unwilling to pay the amount, the complainant approached the directorate of VAC for initiating the necessary legal action against the public servant.
“A trap was laid on Friday by a team from the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Assam, in the premises of Bordoloni outpost. Constable (UB) Niran Dhar Pawe was caught red handed at around 11:15 am immediately after he accepted Rs 5,000 as bribe from the complainant. The tainted bribe money has been recovered from his possession and accordingly seized in the presence of independent witnesses,” a directorate release said.
“In this connection, a case has been registered in ACB Police Station on Friday itself vide ACB P.S. Case No. 01/2023 under Section 120(B) IPC, R/W 7(a) of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018), and necessary legal follow up action is underway,” the release further stated.
