Conducted in partnership with the Lions Club of Dibrugarh, the health camp aimed to provide essential diagnostic services to the tea garden community, where access to specialised medical care remains a challenge.

The initiative was announced in an official statement issued by the company.

Held with active participation from the estate’s management and medical volunteers, the camp saw the attendance of prominent civic and medical personalities including Saikat Patra, mayor of Dibrugarh Municipal Corporation; Malay Chakraborty, president of the Lions Club of Dibrugarh; Sanjeev Chatterjee, the club’s Secretary; and ophthalmologists Alok Baruah, Shaiya Gupta, and Nomisha Ladoo.

A team of seven Lions Club members also supported the event.

According to the official release, a total of 132 individuals underwent eye screening during the camp.

Of them, 20 were diagnosed with cataracts and referred to Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) for surgery.

Additionally, 60 people received free spectacles, helping improve vision and quality of life for many among the estate’s workers and their families.

In tandem with the eye check-up, a Diabetes Screening Camp was also conducted.

A total of 39 individuals were tested for diabetes, with only one person confirmed to be diabetic.

The outcome was seen as an encouraging health indicator for the local population.

Dibrugarh mayor Saikat Patra lauded the health outreach, noting that such programmes were crucial in bridging the gap between urban medical resources and rural communities.

“Healthcare outreach programs like these bring essential services to the heart of rural and tea garden communities, where access often remains a challenge,” he said.

Echoing the sentiment, Rajat Das, Manager of Lepetkatta Tea Estate, said the initiative was deeply aligned with Luxmi Tea’s values.

“At Luxmi Tea, we believe that the well-being of our community is inseparable from the success of our gardens. This camp is a reflection of our long-term commitment to the health and happiness of our workers and their families,” he stated.

Many workers, who availed the services without missing work, expressed gratitude for the on-site care.

“It is difficult for us to travel far for check-ups. This camp has helped me and many others see better and take care of our health without missing work. We are thankful for this care,” said Basanti Karmakar, a tea garden worker who participated in the screening.

The camp marked another milestone in Luxmi Tea’s ongoing efforts to improve health infrastructure in remote tea-growing regions.

With corporate and civic partnerships driving such initiatives, the company reiterated its focus on addressing preventable health issues and building a healthier future for its workforce and their families.
