Guwahati, Dec 14: The Department of School Education in Assam has formally declared the renaming of 1,281 ME (Madrasa Education) madrasas to ME Schools.
This transformation, overseen by SEBA (Board of Secondary Education Assam), marks a considerable change in the identification of these institutions, highlighting the government’s commitment towards promoting uniformity and inclusivity in the state’s education system.
Earlier this year, Assam’s Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had expressed plans to shut all madrasas in the state. The State Education Minister Ranoj Pegu has shared further details regarding the list of schools on the social media platform X.
