Assam Pavilion bags Silver medal at IITF 2023

GUWAHATI, Nov 28: The Assam Pavilion has emerged victorious at the 42nd edition of the India International Trade Fair (IITF) 2023, bagging the coveted Silver Medal for Excellence in Display in the category of ‘State Government and Union Territory’. The trade fair, held at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, concluded on Monday.

The Assam Pavilion, themed ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam – United by Trade’, showcased the state’s rich cultural heritage, exquisite handicrafts, vibrant handlooms, and the indomitable spirit of entrepreneurship. Aligned with chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s vision to elevate Assam to the position of one of the country’s top five states, the pavilion effectively captured the essence of Assam’s potential and progress.

Santanu Deuri, director of the Assam Pavilion at IITF 2023, proudly received the Silver medal from Pradeep Singh Kharola, chairman and managing director of the India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO), on the concluding day of the fair.

The Assam Pavilion’s inauguration on November 14 by additional chief secretary, Industries and Commerce, Public Enterprises Department, Dr Ravi Kota, marked the beginning of a captivating journey at IITF 2023. The pavilion featured 37 stalls, each showcasing a unique aspect of Assam’s diverse offerings. Renowned handloom products, government-owned handicrafts and handlooms outlets, and various departments and agencies of the state government, including DIPR, Tourism, NEDFi, AIDC Ltd., AGMC, 30 MSME units, and two start-ups, proudly represented Assam’s entrepreneurial spirit.

A slew of initiatives undertaken by the government of Assam were prominently featured at the pavilion. The One District One Product scheme, GI-tagged products like Assam Lemon, Gamusa, and Muga silk, traditional Assamese attire, Ease of Doing Business, and Assam Start-Up were effectively promoted, highlighting Assam’s commitment to holistic development and economic growth.

On November 22, Assam State Day was celebrated with great fervour at Pragati Maidan. State minister for industries, commerce, and public enterprises, Bimal Borah, inaugurated the Assam Day, marking the commencement of a cultural extravaganza. Enthralling performances by various cultural troupes captivated the audience, showcasing the vibrant cultural tapestry of Assam. Satriya dance, Jhumur dance, Hajong dance, and Bihu dance performances mesmerized the crowds, leaving them with a deeper appreciation of Assam’s rich cultural heritage. Renowned artists Bhrigu Kashyap and Ridip Rankit regaled the audience with their soulful renditions, adding a touch of musical magic to the celebrations.

The Assam Pavilion witnessed a remarkable footfall, attracting visitors from all walks of life, including students from various educational institutions in and around Delhi. The pavilion’s captivating displays, informative presentations, and lively cultural performances resonated with the visitors, leaving a lasting impression of Assam’s unique identity and potential.

The total sales turnover from locally manufactured products at the Assam Pavilion during the event amounted to approximately Rs 52 lakh, demonstrating the strong demand for Assam’s handcrafted products and the pavilion’s effectiveness in promoting local entrepreneurship.
