GUWAHATI, Oct 15: The Assam Police have arrested a man from Goalpara district following the circulation of a video in which he made vulgar and obscene remarks against Hindu women, the Director General of Police (DGP) GP Singh announced on Tuesday.
The arrest has followed intense public outrage and a demand for action after the video surfaced on social media.
The incident came to light after Executive Editor and Anchor of News Live, Nandan Pratim Sharma Bordoloi, posted the video on the micro-blogging site X.
Bordoloi’s post read, “Listen to this vulgar comment by this Miya Muslim pervert from Assam’s Goalpara towards all Hindu girls and women.”
The video allegedly contained derogatory remarks targeting women in relation to the Vijaya Dashami festival.
Subsequently, the post quickly garnered widespread attention, sparking outrage within the Hindu community and calls for immediate police intervention.
Responding swiftly, Assam DGP GP Singh confirmed that the individual had been arrested.
In a post on X, DGP Singh wrote, “He has been arrested and lawful action is being taken by district police.”
The police have launched an investigation into the incident, and further legal proceedings are underway.
