Assam: Police Recover Five Hoolock Gibbons

DIPHU, April 13: Dillai police on Tuesday evening recovered five Hoolock Gibbons from the possession of two persons. The animals were being transported to Guwahati. After getting the information, the forest staff of Central Range, Manja went to Dillai Police Station to take possession of the captive animals and the two apprehended persons on Wednesday morning.

A forest staffer, while informing the media said on Wednesday, the Dillai police, on routine checking have recovered five Hoolock Gibbons brought from Manipur and to be taken to Guwahati from a cage. The two detained persons identified as MD Jarathang and Habibul Rahman claimed that the animals were to be given as ‘gifts’ to a doctor in Guwahati. However the name of the doctor has not been revealed.

The two, along with the gibbons, will be produced before the CJM court in Diphu.
