GOLAGHAT, April 28: The Golaghat Amateur Theater Society organised a protest and prayer meeting on Sunday evening in response to the brutal terrorist attack in Pahalgam.
The event, held at the society’s auditorium, was supported by various local parties and organisations.
The meeting began with a solemn candle-lighting ceremony followed by a silent prayer for the victims of the attack.
Participants then recited religious texts, with Khirod Kr. Goswami reciting the Ghosa, Amit Changma reading from the Bible, and Arifuddun Ahmed reciting verses from the Quran.
Senior journalist Dwipen Dutta condemned the terrorist violence, calling for an end to such brutality and urging the closure of terrorism-related workshops.
He expressed solidarity with the victims and their families, emphasizing the need for strong action against terrorism.
Theater Society President Dr Ajit Barua announced that a public proposal, to be sent to the Assam government through the District Commissioner, would urge the authorities to take necessary measures to combat terrorism.
The meeting was attended by a large number of people from different sections of society, reflecting the widespread concern over the recent attack and a unified call for peace and justice.
