Guwahati, Nov 24:The Assam Cabinet on November 23 advanced its school-governance agenda by clearing the Assam Non-Government Educational Institutions (Regulation of Fees) (Amendment) Bill 2025 at Lok Sewa Bhawan in Dispur. The Chief Minister presided over the discussion.
The bill seeks a revised framework that defines how private schools report and justify annual fee changes. The Education Department noted that earlier regulations had produced disputes between guardians and school administrations, prompting the need for clearer rules. The amendment sets out new reporting steps, a dispute-redress process and timelines for departmental decisions.
Officials said the bill will be tabled in the coming Assembly session. Once passed, the department will notify the procedures that schools must follow each academic cycle.
Land issues, university governance points and possible changes in teacher postings formed part of the day’s wider agenda, but the fee legislation remained the central action item.
