JORHAT, May 6: About 15 Raijor Dal members including district office bearers formally joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in presence of the state AAP coordinator Bhairab Gogoi, here on Friday.
Dibyajyoti Sarmah, who had resigned from Raijor Dal party and the post of state vice-president, spokesperson and observer of Raijor Dal on April 25, said that he and six others of the Raijor Dal state committee, two Congressmen and one BJP had formally joined AAP at the AAP office in New Delhi.
Sarmah said that they had been drawn to AAP because it upheld the objectives of development and unity as the basis for the development of the country.
“We met Arvind Kejriwal at his residence in Delhi and discussed the problems of Assam namely Citizenship (Amendment) Act, National Register of Citizens, erosion and floods, communication, etc. Kejriwal said he would visit Assam soon and try to address these problems,” Sarmah said.
Sarmah affirmed that he was all regionalism but not the regionalism in which the regional parties robbed no bed with other parties like Trinamool Congress or like the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP).
Sarmah further said that the foundation of AAP had been laid in Assam and would be strengthened from now onwards.
