Assam Sets Plan for Swahid Smarak Inauguration, Clears Pay and Policy Decisions

The Assam Cabinet has outlined the two-day Swahid Smarak inauguration programme for December 9–10, raised ex-gratia for NHM staff, approved pay hikes in Mini ITIs, cleared land pattas under Mission Basundhara and set up a panel for talks on tribal status.

GUWAHATI, Dec 1: The Assam Cabinet met at Lok Sewa Bhawan in Dispur on Sunday, November 30 and outlined the two-day programme for the inauguration of the Swahid Smarak at Paschim Boragaon, built in memory of those killed during the Assam Movement.

The state will light earthen lamps on 9 December with naam-prasanga across locations. The inauguration on 10 December will include families of the martyrs. Districts will hold Swahid Divas on the same day, with the song Swahid Pronamo Tomak performed before gatherings of 1,000 to 10,000 people. The Cabinet asked households to light a lamp on 10 December.

The meeting cleared an increase in ex-gratia for next of kin of deceased NHM staff to ₹7.50 lakh. Salary for staff in five Mini ITIs will rise by about 35%, with revised pay and a 3% annual increment from 1 January.

The Cabinet approved an ordinance to amend Section 58 of the North Lakhimpur University Act, allowing the current Registrar to stay for up to three years or until a regular appointment.

Land pattas will be settled for 660 applicants across eight districts and 712 applicants in three more districts under Mission Basundhara.

A three-member Cabinet Committee will meet the Coordination Committee of Tribal Organizations of Assam to discuss the report on tribal status for six communities. The Chief Minister may join if needed.
