The new DC laid emphasis on mitigating long pending Assam-Arunachal border issue

TEZPUR, April 16: “After the settlement of years’ long vexed Assam-Meghalaya border issue, Assam government is presently giving more emphasis on mitigating the long pending Assam-Arunachal border issue which often triggers tensed situation destroying the brotherhood among the citizens of both the regions. For this, a survey has already been conducted,” said the new deputy commissioner of Sonitpur district, Deba Kumar Misra in a media interaction held at the DC’s conference hall. During the interaction, besides discussing several developmental issues of the district, the deputy commissioner also took opinion from the media persons on how to deal with serious issues like wetland encroachment and other civic problems that have plagued the historic town. Sharing their views, the media persons urged the new deputy commissioner to take special measures to preserve the historical remnants spread at various sites and archaeological sites in and around Tezpur town thereby promoting it into a tourist spot. Besides this, he was also asked to take necessary action to make the wetland areas encroachment-free, develop communication facilities within the municipality areas, banning open sale of pork in front of the Silver Jubilee School, control of soaring price hike of essential commodities, etc. Meanwhile, responding to the urge of the media persons, the new deputy commissioner assured to put effort on addressing the issues in a phase manner for the interest of promoting Tezpur town into a more attractive city. Prior to it, the deputy commissioner was accorded a warm welcome from the Sonitpur Journalist Union and JAFA (Journalists’ Association for Assam).
