Assam State Zoo set up heaters, put up straws and blankets inside premises to keep animals warm

Guwahati, Dec 14: Authorities at the Assam State Zoo and Botanical Garden have implemented precautionary measures to protect animals from the winter chill. These include the installation of heaters, the use of straw and blankets, and the positioning of high-wattage electric bulbs in enclosures to maintain warmth.

Heaters have also been installed specifically for larger animals like tigers and lions, with paddy stubble used for bears and deer, and small blankets for smaller animals. The heaters are operational from 5 pm to 5-6 am daily.

Zoo officials have confirmed that all necessary arrangements have been made to ensure the animals’ comfort during winter. Additionally, if temperatures drop significantly, certain animals are kept indoors for their safety and health, as some species may struggle with wind or ice in their habitats.
