JORHAT: A first year student of Prince of Wales Institute of Engineering and Technology (POWIET) was found hanging on Tuesday in a room of a private hostel near the institute.
The girl, identified as Porismita Sonowal, was a resident of Namrup and had taken lodging at the Anita PG on October 8, 2022.
Her body was found hanging by her roommates.

A roommate of Porismita said that she had come back to the hostel early without attending a single class on Tuesday.
The owner of the hostel said that while the main door to the room was found locked from inside by her roommates, a door to the side which was usually kept locked from inside, was found to be opened and from which the other girls had entered and found her hanging.
He further said that a diary was found but no suicide note. Her parents and the police were informed.
