Assam: Water Submerges 5 Revenue Circles In Nagaon District

NAGAON, June 19: The situation in Nagaon district remains grim with floods covering more new areas under 5 revenue circles within the last 24 hours.

Over 230 villages under those revenue circles are reeling under flood water in the district and it has affected over 3,64,459 people with 57,189 domestic animals till the time of filing this report, sources said.

The overflowing water from the mighty Brahmaputra has submerged 5 among 38 numbers of forest camps under Bagori range and 6 among 25 forest camps under Burhapahar range in Nagaon district portion of Kaziranga National Park on Sunday.

It is, however, feared that more areas will be submerged by flood water within the next few hours as the Brahmaputra is flowing over its danger level there till the time of filing this report, sources added further.

The Kopili as well as Nichari rivers are also flowing over their danger levels and it has created a situation of panic and fear among the people of Kampur town as almost all the wards of Kampur town committee are reeling under flood water.

It has been reported by sources from the District Disaster Management Authority, Nagaon that over 17 relief camps have been set up at greater Kampur areas and 11 in Nagaon Sadar revenue circle while 5 relief camps have been set up in Raha revenue circle in which over 8,715 inmates are taking shelter till the filing of this report.
