JORHAT, Sept 11: Assam Women’s University celebrated its 10th Foundation Day with various events and discussions. Chancellor of Girijananda Chowdhury University, Guwahati, Professor Alak Kumar Buragohain, emphasized the importance of liberal arts education in today’s higher educational institutions during his address as the chief guest. He highlighted that liberal arts aim to liberate one’s mind from prejudices, foster critical thinking, and enable individuals to raise important issues in public.

Dr Buragohain also noted that the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 does not specifically emphasize women’s education, pointing out the need to address this in education policies.

The event included the hoisting of the university flag by Professor Ajanta Borgohain Rajkonwar, Vice Chancellor of Assam Women’s University. A meeting was organized in connection with the foundation day, where Professor Rajkonwar discussed recent developments in various aspects of the university and acknowledged the contributions of those involved in its inception and growth since 2014.

Students also shared their experiences at the university during the event. Tapan Kr. Gohain, Registrar of Assam Women’s University, delivered the welcome address, and the program was moderated by Begum Afrin Zaman, Assistant Professor in the Department of Physiotherapy.
