Guwahati, Nov 13 : The Assamese community in Austin celebrated Diwali this year with an emotional tribute to late music legend Zubeen Garg. Organised by Luitporia – Axom in Austin, the event turned the festival of lights into a celebration of memories and music.
At the centre of the gathering stood a tribute table illuminated with diyas and decorated with flowers, Assamese gamusa, and framed photographs of Zubeen da. Handwritten messages in Assamese and English adorned the space, reflecting the community’s enduring love for the beloved singer.
The evening featured a touching group performance of Mayabini, followed by cultural dances and musical renditions of Zubeen’s iconic songs. The atmosphere brimmed with nostalgia as attendees remembered the artist whose voice defined generations of Assamese listeners.
As part of the tribute, Luitporia will host a community screening of Zubeen Garg’s final film Roi Roi Binale on November 16, 2025, at 10:30 am at SouthWest Theater, Austin, Texas. The event is open to all and aims to celebrate the singer’s lasting artistic legacy.
“This Diwali was about keeping his spirit alive,” said a member of Luitporia, echoing the shared emotion of the evening.
