Lakhimpur, Oct: 19 At Silinibari in the newly formed Ranganadi constituency of Lakhimpur district, a public tribute ceremony was organized today in honor of the beloved artist Zubeen Garg by the voluntary organization Saddichha.
The memorial program was attended by former Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh Nabam Tuki, along with popular singer Jeli Tamin from the neighboring state. Also present was Nabam Yachu, wife of Nabam Tuki and a renowned figure in the Arunachal music industry.
Prominent Assamese tea-tribe singer Subil Bargohain, known for his contributions to community folk music, also took part in the event.
It is noteworthy that in several albums produced by Nabam Yachu, Assam’s dearest artist Zubeen Garg had lent his voice in Apatani and Nyishi languages of Arunachal Pradesh — a gesture that had beautifully bridged the cultural bond between the two states.
During the event, Nabam Yachu made an emotional appeal to the government, demanding justice for Zubeen Garg’s death.
Former Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president Bhupen Kumar Borah was also present at the ceremony. Paying deep tribute to the late artist, he said:
“The man whose death created a movement so massive that it could set a world record — that man is our beloved Zubeen Garg. Today marks 30 days since his passing. Zubeen Garg tried to unite the entire Assamese nation.”
