TEZPUR, Feb 19: An Assamese Women Writers’ Meet was held today at the central office of the All Assam Lekhika Samaroh Samiti in Tezpur, organised by the Sahitya Akademi in collaboration with the All Assam Lekhika Samaroh Samiti. The event brought together office bearers from various district branches, members of the central committee, and several distinguished guests. The programme began with floral tributes and ceremonial lighting of the lamp before the portrait of the organisation’s founder president, Dr Sheela Borthakur.
The inaugural session was addressed by Sahitya Akademi’s Kolkata Regional Secretary and Assamese language coordinator Devendra Kumar Devesh, and noted writer and convenor of the Akademi’s Assamese Advisory Board, Diganta Biswa Sarma. Speakers highlighted the vital role of women in literature and society, and stressed the importance of cultural continuity over mere technological advancement.
Senior writer Maya Sharma attended as chief guest and spoke on Anuradha Sharma Pujari’s novel “Iyat Ekhon Aranya Asil”. The event featured two sessions of self-composed short story and poetry readings by writers from across the state, celebrating contemporary voices in Assamese literature.
