Competing in the women’s 73-kilogram category, Barua’s victory is a significant milestone for Indian Taekwondo. Assam’s education minister, Ranoj Pegu, expressed his pride on X, stating, “Proud moment for 1.4 billion Indians as Assam’s daughter Rodali Barua ends the nation’s 10-year medal drought at Asian Taekwondo Championships by clinching Bronze medal in Women’s 73 kg category.”

Rodali Barua’s accomplishment stands out as she is the first Indian to secure a medal at the Asian Taekwondo Championships in Kyorugi. This achievement highlights her exceptional talent and dedication to the sport.

Her journey to the podium was marked by a hard-fought victory over Uzbekistan’s Iroda Mirtadjieva in the quarter-finals, and a challenging semi-final match against China’s top seed Xu Lei. Despite the tough competition, Barua’s determination and skill led her to the bronze medal.

Barua’s success is not an isolated feat; it adds to her impressive record of gold medals at prominent events such as the India Open, President’s Cup Asia, and El Hassan Open. Her consistent performance underscores her status as a formidable competitor in Taekwondo.
