MARGHERITA, Jan 16: Doctors, often regarded as second gods, unfortunately, face assaults and, at times, even fatal attacks due to vested interests. A shocking incident unfolded at Margherita Civil Hospital on Monday night, during the Uruka festivities around 10:30 pm. Dr Avishek Garodia, a well-known pediatrician at Margherita Civil Hospital, was attacked by Dimple Borah, his son, and two other individuals.

Dr Avishek Garodia recounted the incident, stating that on the day of Uruka, he was on emergency night duty at Margherita Civil Hospital. Dimple Borah, his son, and two others arrived with a dog bite patient. Due to the unavailability of ARV injection during the night, they became agitated and resorted to abusive language. In the course of the altercation, they physically assaulted Dr Garodia, causing serious injuries to his face, nose, and other body parts. Following the assault, the perpetrators fled from the hospital.

On the next day, Dr Garodia filed an FIR at Margherita Police Station against Dimple Borah, his son, and the other individuals involved in the brutal attack. He urged the Margherita Police to take swift and stringent action against the assailants.

Dr Sanjib Sonowal, the general secretary of the Medical Council of India, Margherita branch, expressed deep concern over the incident. He emphasised the unfortunate nature of such attacks, considering doctors as life-savers. Dr Sonowal called on the Margherita sub-divisional administration and Margherita Police to take immediate and strict action against those responsible for the barbaric assault on Dr Avishek Garodia, a noted pediatrician at Margherita Civil Hospital.
