ATASU organises Mukali Bihu at Rangghar Bakori

Rongali Bihu celebrations marked by symbolic ascending of Ahom Swargadeo in historic Rang Ghar

SIVASAGAR, April 15: With symbolic ascending of the Ahom Swargadeo in historic Rang Ghar in Sivasagar district and proclamation of the fanfare on the first day of the Assamese calendar, the Rongali Bihu with all its splendour has began in the foreground of the 17th-century historic sports pavilion in the presence of thousands of people and hussori dals.

The celebrations began with a chorus presented by over a hundred women from Rongpur. The Nimaijan Hussori Dal was the first team to present hussori on the open stage, which was followed by a hussori dal from Magarahat, the members of which were above 60 years. Earlier ATASU president Basanta Gogoi hoisted the Bihuwan in the morning. Over a dozen Bihu Hussori dals presented Hussori in the Rang Ghar premises.

Senior journalist of The Janambhumi group, Sankab Kaushik Baruah released the souvenir published on the occasion, which was edited by Jayjyoti Gogoi and Anamuddin Ahmed.

Distinguished personalities, who were felicitated on the occasion were Congress candidate for the Jorhat LS seat Gaurav Gogoi, Sivasagar district commissioner Aditya Vikram Yadav, Sivasagar SP Subhrajyoti Borah,  advocate Chandana Kaishik Baruah, senior photographer Reba Kumar Bora,  Manjeer Gogoi, district Congress president Chitu Baruah of  Jatiya Sangrami Sena, Walifur Rahman, executive president of Ujani Asom Muslim Kalyan Parishad, Santosh Dutta, Promod Baruah, founder president ATASU, Arun Gogoi, founder secretary, ATASU, Jintu Mech,  Padmakanta Das, Krishna Mantu Gohai Baruah, Sankav Kaushik Baruah, Diganta Changmai and Krishna Baruah.

Premier socio-cultural organization ‘Aoikya’ has organized a Koni junj ( egg -fight) on the occasion of Garu Bihu, in which over a hundred participants from across the state took part.

The popular Koni junj (egg-fight) was inaugurated by Sivasagar district commissioner Aditya Vikram Yadav and Sivasagar SP, Subhrajyoti Bora during Goru Bihu on April 13. Aokya felicitated senior gynecologist Sanjeev Mahanta, social worker and theatre worker Mukibur Rahman, young entrepreneur Jayanta Dutta, environment worker, Abu Syed Hussain, national badminton coach Kabir Bora, national wushu player Abhijit Buragohain, wushu coach Ratul Basumatary. JP Saikia, associate professor of the department of sociology of Dibrugarh University released the souvenir.

Dhanajay Saikia, president Aoikya hoisted the flag. Manoj Bhagawati, Sankarlal Agarwala,  Inamul Hussain, Anamuddin Ahmed, Sarat Hazarika, Budheswar Chetia, Pibujit Chetia, Shantahu Dutta, Manoj Kr Borthakur, Sarat Hazarika, Biswa Baruah, Raju Das, Muktab Hussain, Jamaluddin Ahmed, Babli Khan,  and several distinguished citizens in the meeting. A cultural programme was also held on the occasion.

Along with the rest of the state, Rongali Bihu has been celebrated in Demow and its adjoining areas with pomp and gaiety.

On the occasion of Goru Bihu on April 13 people bathed their cattles in the morning and performed their traditional rituals. On the first day of the Assamese New Year on Sunday, people donned in their best attire sought the blessings of their elders. Youths could be seen partaking in the traditional egg fight.

The Bengali community in the state celebrated ‘PoilaBaishak’ on Sunday, during which people sought the blessings of their elders and performed Ganesh Puja.

Under the patronage of the All Tai Ahom Students Union (ATASU), Demow regional committee, former

ATASU leaders in association with the locals organised the8th annual Mukoli Bihu was organized at Demow Public Playground in Demow on Sunday. The programme was held in the memory of Damchao Nipon Boruah. The dholiyas (person who plays the dhol), nasonis (dancer) and the husori teams from different areas performed in the Mukoli Bihu.
