Awareness Campaign In Karbi Anglong

CHOKIHOLA: An awareness campaign on early marriage and child labour was held on the premises of Marjong Club by Karbi Anglong Women Justice Forum (KAWJF) and Nilip So-arlo Asong.

The awareness campaign stresses early marriage, which leads to separation, domestic violence, destitution, and second marriage, and distress, which may even lead to the loss of one’s life. As per state government policy, the police have arrested persons who have married minors under the IPC and POCSO Act.

Lapen child labour in the form of keeping domestic help. The children were working hard when they should be learning in school. The parents should be made aware of it.

Sabin Rongpipi spoke on the Early Marriage Act and the Child Labour Act. She said if the law is not obeyed, one can land in jail. Children should be in school; otherwise, the parents may get into trouble.

The OC of Chokihola police station, Ritupal Senchowa, said those who do not obey the law may land in jail.

President of KAWJF, Beaulet Beypi; president of Nilip So-arlo Asong, Malika Kropi; Sarkari Gaonburas; Welson Kro; Lorence Teron; Lokhon Hanse; Khorsing Hanse; Arun Kro; Longkam Phangcho; and others attended the programme.
