KOKRAJHAR, June 10: An Awareness-cum-Plantation drive program was organised by the Haltugaon Division of the Forest & Wildlife Department, Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) at Adarsha Vidyalaya in Kokrajhar on Wednesday. The programme was attended by Kokrajhar East MLA Sewli Mohilary, Dhaneswar Goyary MCLA Baokhungri, DFO Pradip Kumar Bhuyan Haltugaon division ,forest officials, teachers, students and local residents.
The event focused on raising awareness about environmental conservation and encouraging people to take an active role in protecting nature. Participants planted saplings on the school campus and pledged to care for them in the coming years.
Speaking on the occasion, the leaders highlighted the growing challenges posed by climate change, deforestation, biodiversity loss and rising temperatures. They stressed that planting a tree is not only an act of environmental responsibility but also a commitment to future generations.
They noted that the monsoon season provides the best opportunity for plantation activities and urged people to make tree planting a regular practice. It was emphasised that every individual, educational institution and community should contribute towards increasing green cover and preserving natural resources.
The speakers said that a single sapling planted can provide shade, oxygen and environmental benefits for decades. They also called for continuous efforts to restore forests, protect wildlife, conserve water resources and create a healthier and more sustainable environment.
Students and teachers actively participated in the programme and expressed their commitment to supporting environmental protection initiatives. The event concluded with a call for collective action to build a greener future and strengthen awareness about the importance of preserving nature for coming generations.
The programme, organised by the Haltugaon Forest Division was attended by Kokrajhar MLA Sewli Mohilary, BTC Councilor of Baokhungri Constituency Dhaneswar Goyary, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Pradip Kumar Bhuyan, along with forest department officials, staff members and students.
During the programme, various medicinal and eco-friendly saplings, including Bakul, Deodar, Mango, Indian Gooseberry (Amla) and Olive were planted within the school campus.
