DIPHU, Nov 14: An awareness programme on the control and sustainable use of parthenium was organised by Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Karbi Anglong, in collaboration with the Department of Agronomy and All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) on Weed Management, Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat, at Amlokhi on Wednesday.
The head of KVK, Karbi Anglong, Dr Subal Maibangsa, in his welcome address, spoke on the objectives of the programme.
Following this, the head of the Department (Agronomy), Dr Kalyan Pathak, in his speech, emphasised the detrimental effects of the alien invasive weed, parthenium, on human beings, cattle, as well as agricultural lands.
Principal scientist and PI (AICRP on weed management), Dr Khagen Kurmi, discussed the control and management of the parthenium weed and its sustainable use in agriculture.
The programme saw the participation of 25 farmers from the village, along with the subject matter specialists and other officials of KVK, Karbi Anglong.
Extension specialist (Directorate of Extension Education, AAU, Jorhat), Dr Manoj Chauhan, and president of the Karbi Anglong Cultural Society of Amlokhi, Rahul Chakma, participated in the programme.
