NAGAON, Dec 10: The closing ceremony of the ‘Bal Vivah Mukt Bharat’ campaign was organised by Kosi Lok Manch, a non-governmental organisation in Nagaon, in collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority and Child Helpline Unit, Nagaon, supported by the Assam State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, on Tuesday.
The event took place at Nagaon Government Girls Higher Secondary School and was attended by distinguished guests and participants, including deputy chief of the Legal Aid Defence Council, Bulbuli Sarma; Jasmin Begum, member of the Legal Aid Defence Council; Queen Bora, district programme coordinator of the Women and Child Development Department; Janapriya Kalita, gender specialist from the Women and Child Development Department; Supriya Kaushik, coordinator of the Child Helpline Unit; and Rita Kalita, principal of Nagaon Government Girls HS School.
Jasmin Begum addressed the gathering, elucidating the Child Marriage Prohibition Act and related laws. Supriya Kaushik highlighted the roles and responsibilities of the Child Helpline Unit, while Queen Bora from the Social Welfare Department elaborated on the dire consequences of child marriage at the grassroots level.
The event culminated with a pledge-taking ceremony initiated by the school principal, according to an official press note.
