Beekeeping training and seminar in Karbi Anglong

DIPHU, Jan 28: Farmers, hobbyists, and agriculture department staff gathered for an engaging beekeeping training and seminar at the department of Agriculture’s conference hall in Karbi Anglong, which started on January 27 and concluded on Tuesday.

The two-day event focused on Scientific Beekeeping under the National Beekeeping and Honey Mission (NBHM) for 2024-2025. Organised by the directorate of horticulture and food processing, the training was led by Luit Educational Services Pvt Ltd. It aimed to equip participants with essential knowledge and skills for sustainable beekeeping, whether as a hobby or a business.

The seminar featured expert talks, starting with proprietor of JC Agro Farm, Manna Jagadish Ch Hazarika, who provided hands-on training in handling honey bee colonies and addressed various challenges in beekeeping.

Nethi Baruah, Assam Agricultural University Zonal Research Station (AAU ZRS) discussed diseases and pests in beekeeping, along with pesticide management, and Mirjeng Ronghang (Trainer) focused on the importance of honey bees, tools, and implements of beekeeping, etc.

The programme was conducted by the nodal officer, Horticulture Mission for North East & Himalayan States (HMNEH), Serjili Hansepi.

The attendees learned about the ecological importance of bees in pollination and how beekeeping benefits both the environment and local agriculture. Over 50 farmers from different areas of the district attended the training and expressed their appreciation for such programs aimed at securing a better future.

Key officials, including district agriculture officer, Nabajyoti Dutta; sub-divisional agriculture officer, S Tisso, and others were also present at the event.
