NAGAON, March 15: The Bhupen Hazarika Kalatirtha, a cultural center was virtually inaugurated in Nagaon town on Sunday.
The inauguration was carried out by Chandra Mohan Patowary, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, on behalf of Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Speaking at the site in Nagaon town, local MLA Rupak Sarma said that the long-cherished dream of Nagaon residents has finally come true. The Kalatirtha will provide an opportunity for the new generation to learn about the life and works of Dr Bhupen Hazarika.
The Bhupen Hazarika Kalatirtha features a modern auditorium, museum, archive and exhibition hall and will serve as a hub for literary and cultural activities.
The project was constructed at a cost of Rs 40 crore on a 20-acre plot, funded by the Urban Infrastructure Development Fund. The construction was carried out by UCN Construction Company Private Limited.
The event was attended by dignitaries, including the District Commissioner of Nagaon, Debashish Sarma and artist Kamal Kataky. The audience joined in singing Dr Bhupen Hazarika’s iconic song “Manuhe Manuhor Babe”.
