Bhupen Hazarika Museum to be completed in one year: Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma

GUWAHATI, Sept 8: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that a museum dedicated to fulfilling the dreams of legendary singer and cultural icon Dr Bhupen Hazarika will be completed within a year at the Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra in Guwahati.

Speaking on the occasion of the inauguration of Dr Hazarika’s birth centenary celebrations at the Dr Bhupen Hazarika Samannay Tirtha in Jalukbari, the chief minister said the museum will play a crucial role in preserving the Bard of the Brahmaputra’s songs, creative works, and contributions to Assamese culture and society.

“The museum will be a centre to safeguard Dr Hazarika’s legacy and project his ideals on both national and global platforms,” Sarma remarked.

The Chief Minister highlighted that the state government is organising a series of centenary events throughout the year, with participation from dignitaries including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President of India.

“This museum is a vital part of our efforts to honour the profound influence Dr Hazarika had on generations. It will inspire future generations to uphold the Assamese identity and cultural heritage,” he added.

Sarma also invited public suggestions on how the centenary celebrations can best reflect Dr Hazarika’s thoughts and philosophy.

He urged people across the state to actively participate in preserving and promoting the values he stood for.

The announcement was made in the presence of Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, Cultural Affairs Minister Bimal Borah, education minister Ranoj Pegu, and other dignitaries, as well as members of Dr Hazarika’s family.

The museum’s construction is expected to be completed within a year and is envisioned as a centre of research, education, and cultural preservation, ensuring that Dr Hazarika’s contributions remain evergreen for generations to come.
