JORHAT, April 27: Consul General of Bhutan, Consulate General, Guwahati, Jigme Thinlye Namgyal along with Vice Consul Phurpa Tshering on Wednesday visited the Jorhat campus of Assam Agricultural University here and held talks with university authorities led by the AAU vice-chancellor Dr Bidyut Chandan Deka.
An AAU official informed that the Bhutanese delegates held discussion at the conference hall of the vice-chancellor’s office complex on a wide range of issues, which included agricultural education, research and extension, that the varsity and the neighbouring Himalayan nation could work on.
The official stated that the foreign delegates expressed interest in working jointly in different areas of the agri sector with the university and also discussed preparing the groundwork for signing an MoU between the country and AAU.
The delegates showed keenness in agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry and tea cultivation and sought technical guidance in this regard, the official said.
The envoys also talked about trade ties in the agri sector by way of imports and exports and also cooperation on organic farming techniques in order to boost the agri economy of Bhutan, the official informed. The delegates further talked about sending students to the university and also about working in the agri tourism sector.
The delegates inspected several ongoing research projects within the university campus and also visited the North-East Agriculture Technology Entrepreneurs Hub (NEATEHUB) – an Atal Incubation Centre – at AAU.
AAU registrar Tapan Gohain, director, Research (Agri) Dr Ashok Bhattacharyya, dean, Faculty of Agriculture Dr Jayanta Deka, director, Extension Education PK Pathak were among the officials of the university present during the visit of the Bhutanese envoys, the official stated.
