GUWAHATI, April 19: At a time when road safety has become an even more pertinent issue in the state – especially owing to the recent road tragedy of a Bihu Husori party of 5 in Biswanath on Saturday night, Radio Mirchi Guwahati observed a unique Bihu – called Mirchi Bihutoli – dedicated to mass awareness about the importance of following road safety and traffic regulations.

It was held at Central Mall, Christian Basti on Sunday evening. This programme was presented by the Transport Department, Government of Assam. Kamrup DTO Gautam Das graced the event as the chief guest, who also paid condolences to the victims in Biswanath and reinforced the message of road safety in his speech.

The event was hosted by Mirchi RJ Gaurab, Pallavi & Susmita – who drove home the message of road safety by appearing in helmets. This was followed by a unique performance by a Dhulia wearing helmet and a mime act about the repercussions of breaking traffic rules by mime artiste Minangka Deka. A Bihu troupe performed a special Husori that gave the message about following traffic rules.

Mimicry artiste Krishna Thapa and Kunal Das also entertained the audience with their performances. Amidst Bihu performances, there were traditional Bihu games such as xathor and konijuj organised for the audiences present at the programme.

Mirchi Bihutoli is the first and only Bihu programme till date to focus entirely on road safety.
