BILASIPARA, March 9: The Bilasipara co-district administration has initiated extensive preparations to deal with possible floods and other natural disasters in the coming months.
A preparedness meeting in this regard was held at the auditorium of the Bilasipara Co-district Administration Office on Monday under the chairmanship of Co-district Commissioner Dr Pritilekha Deka.
Senior officials from various departments participated in the meeting and discussed measures required to handle any potential flood situation.
During the meeting, emphasis was laid on strengthening rescue operations for people and domestic animals in flood-affected areas.
Officials also reviewed plans for setting up relief camps and ensuring proper supply, storage and distribution of essential food grains for affected residents.
The administration further discussed arrangements for medical camps in vulnerable areas, including ensuring adequate treatment facilities and maintaining sufficient stock of essential medicines to protect public health during emergencies.
Measures for the protection of livestock were also reviewed, including storage and distribution of fodder, deployment of mobile veterinary camps and vaccination drives during flood situations.
Officials stressed the need to maintain transportation connectivity during floods, highlighting the importance of timely repair and construction of roads, bridges and river embankments.
The meeting also discussed procedures for assessing damage to houses and property of affected families and assigning responsibilities to departments for ensuring proper compensation.
Maintaining electricity supply and law and order in flood-affected areas was also emphasised.
The meeting was attended by Revenue Circle Officers of Bilasipara and Chapar, Chari Lalrutkim Langtau and Shashibhushan Rajkhowa, Bilasipara Election Officer Davidson Daimari, representatives of social organisations and officials from various departments.
