Bisu Dima celebrates good harvest in Karbi Anglong

Traditional drinks and food habits of the tribes should be preserved and promoted

DIPHU, Jan 28: Bisu Dima – an annual harvesting festival of the Dimasa tribe was celebrated across Karbi Anglong on Monday. It is celebrated after the completion of harvest in villages and is usually organised in the month January.

Diphu town also witnessed the celebration of Bisu Dima at Dimasa Club, Amlappatty organised by Amlapatty Bisu Dima Salai Hasom. The Dimasa club wore a decorated look with colourful Dimasa cloths of yellow, red, green and white dazzling above. Men and women and youths were seen dressed in their finest traditional attire and ornaments worn on their necks and ears.

Participating in the celebration, the chief executive member (CEM) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Tuliram Ronghang wished the Dimasa people a happy and fruitful Bisu Dima and called for unity and oneness among all communities living in Karbi Anglong.

The CEM praised the good quality of judima – Dimasa rice beer, which is very much popular due to its taste and flavour. The Karbis as well make horjang and arak – rice beer and liquor. Such traditional drinks and food habits of the tribes should be preserved and promoted.

The CEM also said that the KAAC will take up the development of the Dimasa Club entrance gate and the development of the building.

Member of Autonomous Council (MAC) of Dhansiri and Executive Member (EM) of KAAC, Tilotoma Hasnu conveyed her greetings to the people of Karbi Anglong on the occasion of Bisu Dima. All the worries and hardships are forgotten for the day and engaged himself in traditional games and sports and make merry.

Hansu informed that the CEM Ronghang has assured to promote Bisu Dima. She thanked the Amlapatty Bisu Dima Salai Hasom for organising the celebration at Dimasa Club.

The evening was marked with the feasting and merry making and performing of Bisu Dima dances.
