BISWANATH CHARIALI, March 4: Social media has emerged as a powerful platform for raising awareness about social issues and conducting educational sessions. Leveraging this, Biswanath Police has taken proactive steps to educate the public about road safety through their Facebook official page. The District Road Safety Committee (DRSC), comprising Biswanath Police, District Transport Office (DTO), Biswanath Traffic Police, and Biswanath Civil Administration, has initiated the uploading of weekly videos focusing on various road signals and traffic signs. These concise video sessions, resembling compact classes, have garnered significant attention and engagement from the public.

In an interview with The Hills Times, Biswanath SP Subhasish Baruah, APS, highlighted the objective of the initiative, stating, “As part of DRSC Biswanath’s efforts to prevent road accidents, Biswanath Police has been disseminating information on various traffic signs through our official social media handles.” He further noted that the initiative has received widespread appreciation, with one specific video accumulating over 2.97 lakhs views to date.

Biswanath Police consistently uploads informative videos on their social media platforms, particularly Facebook (Biswanath Police), which have received remarkable responses from the public. To date, 22 videos on traffic education have been shared on the Biswanath Police’s official Facebook page. Apart from these online classes, Biswanath Police also conduct regular duty on NH 15. The jurisdiction of superintendent of police, Biswanath covers a total of 7 police stations, including Sootea PS, Biswanath Chariali PS, Biswanath Ghat River PS, Gingia PS, Behali PS, Helem PS, and Gohpur PS, along with 6 outposts and 1 patrol post, all actively involved in promoting road safety. Police teams, in collaboration with the traffic branch, are stationed at every crossing zone within their respective areas.

It’s worth mentioning that the introduction of a four-lane road in the northern belt of the Brahmaputra region, although a positive development, has also brought challenges related to road safety awareness among the local populace. To address this gap and mitigate the incidence of road accidents, Biswanath Police’s innovative measures have been warmly welcomed and appreciated by the conscientious citizens of the area.
