BJP announces candidates for six hill constituencies

DIPHU, March 19: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced its list of candidates for six Assembly constituencies across Karbi Anglong, West Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao for the forthcoming Assam Legislative Assembly Election 2026, introducing several new faces while dropping sitting legislators.

BJP EKADC general secretary Mrinoy Teron said the list was finalised in New Delhi on Thursday morning.

In 110-Diphu (ST), the party has fielded Niso Terangpi, replacing sitting MLA Bidyasing Engleng.

Former MP Horensing Bey was not included in the list.

For 109-Howraghat, Lunsing Teron, an Executive Member of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), has been nominated, while two-time MLA Darsing Ronghang has been denied a ticket.

In 108-Bokajan, the BJP has dropped sitting MLA and Deputy Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly Numal Momin and nominated Surjya Rongphar, an Executive Member of KAAC and MAC of Borjan.

For 111-Rongkhang (ST), the party has fielded KAAC Chief Executive Member Tuliram Ronghang, replacing sitting MLA Rupsing Teron.

In the newly created 112-Amri (ST) constituency, Habey Teron has been nominated, while for 113-Haflong, the party has fielded Rupali Langthasa, replacing sitting MLA and minister Nandita Garlosa.

Meanwhile, BJP EKADC leaders led by president Roland Killing, along with MP Amarsing Tisso and vice president Robbie Rongpi, welcomed the candidates in Guwahati.

Party leaders also extended best wishes to the candidates and urged workers and supporters to remain united and strengthen the party’s campaign at the grassroots level.
