Tezpur, 25 Oct: Supporters of singer Zubeen Garg took to the streets of Tezpur this evening to demand swift justice in the case surrounding his death. The rally, organised under the banner ‘I am a Zubeen Fan, We Are Zubeen Fans,’ was led by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders and attended by hundreds of party workers and citizens.
BJP general secretary said that the event was a demonstration of respect and love for the singer, not a protest or political agitation. “As fans of Zubeen Garg, we are here to support the justice process. Zubeen Garg will get justice, and like all his admirers, we are patiently waiting for it,” he said.
The rally began around 4 pm from Tezpur Collegiate Playground and proceeded through the city streets before concluding at Court Chariali. Attending the rally, Padma Hazarika, MLA of Na-Duwara, said, “We are all fans of Zubeen Garg. We urge the Assam government to expedite the investigation, the SIT to file the charge sheet soon, and the court to ensure strict punishment for the guilty. We have come out on the streets to respect public sentiment and demand justice for Zubeen Garg.”
Other participants included MTR Vice-Chancellor Ritubaran Sharma, BJP Sonitpur district president Madhusmita Deka Hazarika, and leaders and workers from five assembly constituencies in the district. Supporters carried banners and festoons, singing Zubeen Garg’s songs as they marched.
