GUWAHATI, Feb 19: Senior BJP leader Nitin Nabin continued his two-day tour of Assam on Thursday with visits to a tea garden in Dibrugarh district and the revered Barekuri Naamghar in Tinsukia, underscoring the party’s outreach to indigenous communities and its focus on development.
Accompanied by Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Assam BJP president Dilip Saikia and state Culture Minister Bimal Borah, Nabin interacted with tea garden workers and praised their contribution to Assam’s global identity.
He said the state’s tea industry has earned worldwide recognition for its quality and flavour, crediting generations of workers for elevating Assam tea to international acclaim. Their dedication, he noted, has brought pride not only to the state but to the country.
Earlier in the day, Nabin had breakfast at the Dibrugarh residence of Sonowal before heading to the Barekuri Naamghar, an important spiritual and cultural centre of the Moran community. Offering prayers, he spoke about the region’s unique harmony between faith and nature, referring to the presence of rare hoolock gibbons in the area. He prayed for peace, prosperity and sustained progress for the people of Assam.
The BJP leader also paid floral tributes at the moidam of Motok ruler Sarbananda Singha.
On the first day of his tour, Nabin addressed party workers in Dibrugarh and asserted that Assam must emerge as a development model for the country. He commended the initiatives undertaken by the BJP-led government under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Launching a sharp attack on the Congress, he alleged that previous governments had focused on vote-bank politics instead of peace and progress. He maintained that Assam is now advancing with clear policies and decisive leadership.
Nabin is scheduled to conclude his visit after addressing booth-level workers at Manohari Tea Garden.
