Demand raised for fair investigation into mysterious death of two schoolgirls

KOKRAJHAR, May 23: The mysterious death of two schoolgirls whose bodies were recovered from a pond near a tea garden at Dholmara in Kokrajhar has triggered widespread concern and outrage in the area.

According to police sources, the post-mortem report in the case is expected to be released next Monday.

On Saturday, Dhiraj Goala visited the homes of the bereaved families at Dholmara Lalkura as a representative of the Assam government.

The MLA met family members of the deceased students, identified as Anamika Bara and Sarita Lakra, expressed condolences and demanded strict punishment for those found responsible for the incident.

Goala also expressed hope that the investigation would be conducted in a fair and transparent manner.

He assured the families that the government would extend all necessary assistance and support after the post-mortem report is made available.

An AASAA delegation led by Salim Minz was also present during the visit.

The bodies of the two schoolgirls were recovered on May 21 from a pond near a tea garden after they had reportedly left home for school earlier in the day.

The circumstances surrounding their deaths remain unclear.

Apart from Goala, several local leaders and representatives also visited the area on Saturday, including Derhasat Basumatary and Durga Hasda, who conveyed condolences to the grieving families and reviewed the situation.

The families of the deceased students once again appealed to the government and administration for a proper investigation and justice in the case.
