Lakhimpur, Oct 28: A political controversy has reached the Bihpuria Assembly constituency after a woman filed a police complaint against the BJP MLA, Amiya Kumar Bhuyan. The woman, identified as contractor Rupali Saikia, a functionary within the local BJP committee, alleged the MLA threatened her after she confronted him over a financial dispute.

The issue relates to a payment. According to the FIR filed at Narayanpur Police Station, Saikia had given MLA Bhuyan ₹2 lakh for a work contract. When the MLA did not provide the work, Saikia went to his house on October 25 to ask for the money’s return. The situation escalated, with the MLA allegedly becoming aggressive.

Saikia reported that the MLA pushed her out of his home and issued a threat, stating he would call the police to shoot her. The complaint also notes that the MLA used abusive language against her during the argument.

In her media statements, Saikia made claims of corruption within the constituency. She asserted that the MLA has been operating a “commission raj” by taking 10 to 20 percent commission on all projects. She claimed the MLA gives work to contractors from outside the constituency, taking large sums of money, and has been harassing women. Saikia stated that the people of Bihpuria have been suffering for five years under the MLA’s tenure and that he shows no loyalty to party members. She also criticized the work of the Zila Parishad member, Khagen Hazarika, a party member.

Fearing for her life, Rupali Saikia has appealed to the police for protection. She has also called for the intervention of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, demanding the MLA be removed. Saikia concluded by stating that if Amiya Bhuyan is given a ticket for the next election, party members and the public will create a “Nepal-like situation” in the constituency.
