DHUBRI, July 15: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) unit in Dhubri on Tuesday organised a road march from its district office to Pachanmore to express gratitude to chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for his government’s ongoing eviction drives to reclaim encroached public land across Assam.
Led by former Golakganj MLA Ashwini Roy and Dhubri BJP president Ranjit Kumar Roy, the rally drew a large crowd of party workers, local leaders and supporters.
Participants shouted slogans such as “Encroachment on indigenous land will not be tolerated” and “Long live CM Himanta Biswa Sarma” as they marched through the town.
Addressing the gathering, Ashwini Roy said the programme was meant to acknowledge what he called the government’s “bold steps” in protecting government land from illegal encroachments.
Ranjit Kumar Roy described the anti-encroachment efforts as a “major achievement” of the Sarma-led administration, adding that they reflected the government’s commitment to safeguarding public assets.
Dhubri Municipal Board chairman Debamoy Sanyal, BJP leader Nirmalya Paul and other functionaries also took part in the rally.
They said the chief minister’s “visionary leadership” had brought renewed focus to land governance issues in the state.
Dhubri, like several other districts in Assam, has long faced challenges stemming from encroachments on government and forest land.
The state government’s recent eviction drives, carried out in phases since 2021, have drawn both support and criticism. In Dhubri, however, Tuesday’s programme underscored the local BJP unit’s full-throated endorsement of the initiative.
The event concluded with a renewed pledge by party members to support further land reclamation measures and create public awareness on protecting government land from encroachment.
