KHERONI, Jan 6: With the 2026 Assembly elections approaching, the West Karbi Anglong unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party has intensified its outreach drive, foregrounding development initiatives and land rights across the hill district.
As part of the campaign, the party has engaged with residents through the distribution of land pattas under the Purthimi Akemang 2.0 scheme, coupled with a series of project inaugurations and foundation stone-laying programmes, aimed at consolidating support ahead of the polls.
A major programme was held at Harlongchebat in Hamren, led by Chief Executive Member of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council and senior BJP leader Tuliram Ronghang.
During the event, land pattas were formally handed over to 2,459 families under the Mission Basundhara 2.0 initiative.
Addressing the gathering, Ronghang announced the launch of 17 new blacktopped road projects within the Hamren Council constituency to improve connectivity in the interior areas.
He also said that around 1,000 teaching posts would be opened for recruitment in primary and secondary schools across the region, giving a boost to the education sector.
The day also marked an organisational milestone for the party with the inauguration of the new BJP Hamren Mandal Committee office at Jengkha.
The office has been named after former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
Political observers view the scale and timing of these programmes as an early show of strength by the BJP, blending administrative delivery with grassroots organisational expansion.
By rolling out welfare measures alongside party-building activities, the BJP is seen as signalling its preparedness for the 2026 Assembly elections.
“The Karbi Anglong BJP is fully prepared. We are reaching every doorstep with the message of development and security,” Ronghang said at the rally, setting the tone for the party’s election campaign in the hill district.
